To compliment the Asus G73JH notebook computer with all its powerful components, a SSD was in order. This computer stock, scored over 7 in every category on the Windows systems index rating, except for the HDD. So there would be no true benefit for me upgrading from my Dell XPS M1710 to the Asus G73, unless I did the Intel SSD. Ordered the Intel X25M G2 160GB from newegg.com, which was where I found the best price and they had it in stock.
The Intel X25M installs just like any other 2.5″ hard disk drive. I did a clean install of Windows 7 onto the SSD. Once up and running and installing all appropriate drivers, Windows 7 was screaming full steam ahead. Please note that you should use the Microsoft drivers for this drive, as it supports TRIM. I also used the drivers from the Asus DVD and downloaded the Radeon 5870 driver/software from the Asus support site. I tested the Windows index rating again, the Intel X25M SSD scored a 7.7. WOW!!!
This help reduce the startup time from 30 seconds to about 15 seconds. System shutdown under 10 seconds. That is the way it should be!
